The alchemist is the forerunner of the chemist. The main focus of the alchemist was on turning lead into gold. Aside from not obsessing about turning lead into gold, the modern chemist uses the scientific method to expand humanities understanding of matter.

Today's modern radiochemist has suceeded in the alchemist's dream of turning lead into gold. Unfortunately, the process of turning lead into gold is far more expensive than simply mining gold out of the earth.

Alchemists were known for their dabbling in the art of distillation.
